School Board News

Members of the North Cedar school board attended the Iowa Association of School Board’s annual convention. At the annual convention, they had the opportunity to attend informational workshops, hear keynote speakers who shared their insight and expertise, and had the opportunity to meet sponsors and exhibitors. The annual convention is also where they hold the Iowa Association of School Board delegate assembly. At the delegate assembly, the delegates established the 2018 Iowa Association of School Board's beliefs, resolutions, and legislative priorities.

Schools across the state showed solidarity as they approved the following 2018 legislative priorities (summarized):

  • Supporting continued progress in the development of rigorous content standards and benchmarks.
  • Supporting increased statewide access to and funding for mental health services for children.
  • Supporting predictable and timely state funding for special education.
  • Supporting a school foundation formula that equalizes per-pupil funding.
  • Supporting setting supplemental state aid.
  • Supporting the repeal of the December 31, 2029 sunset on the statewide penny sales tax for school infrastructure.
Second Grade Field Trip

Lowden and Mechanicsville second grade classes had so much fun on their field trip! They went to Dan and Debbie's Creamery in Ely. The ice cream was great and we got to see all of the machinery that they use to make ice cream, cheese curds, and bottled milk. The Lion King, Jr. was spectacular! All of the students were incredibly well behaved and represented North Cedar in the best way possible! Please enjoy a few photos from our day.
